Every bird dog brings something different to the field, and Hildee brings a combination of German breeding, natural bird drive, extensive hunting experience, and a calm, steady personality. Born in Gronhorster Feld, Germany, Hildee made the trip to the United States when she was only 16 weeks old. Even at that young age, it didn't take long to see that this German Shorthaired Pointer had plenty of fire in her.
Hildee's registered name is Distel vom Gronhorster Feld, and she is a beautiful dark liver roan German Shorthaired Pointer with a medium frame. From the very beginning, Hildee was a spitfire when birds were involved. She showed a natural stalk, tremendous bird drive, and an instinctive desire to hunt. Those early qualities have developed into the experienced hunting dog she is today.
Now four years old, Hildee has spent three seasons guiding hunters at Mississippi Upland. Over those seasons, she has developed a hunting style that makes her especially enjoyable for hunters who appreciate a close-working, methodical bird dog.
Hildee isn't interested in racing through the field just to cover ground. She works at a slower, comfortable pace, stays close, and carefully hunts the cover in front of her. Her easy speed and close range make her simple to handle and allow hunters to really watch her work. For someone who wants a relaxed, enjoyable upland hunt without feeling rushed through the field, Hildee's style is hard to beat.
Hildee's experience extends well beyond the preserve fields of South Mississippi. She has traveled to Kansas to hunt wild pheasant and quail, giving her experience with wild birds and the wide-open country of the Midwest. She has also traveled north to Wisconsin to hunt grouse, where the cover and hunting conditions demand a completely different style of bird work.
Those experiences have helped make Hildee a versatile and adaptable hunting dog. Whether she's working quail cover in Mississippi, hunting pheasant and quail in Kansas, or searching the grouse woods of Wisconsin, she brings the same steady determination and natural bird drive to the hunt.
Hildee was also exceptionally easy to train. She responded particularly well to treat-based training, and her willingness to learn made working with her enjoyable from the beginning. She is intelligent, responsive, and eager to understand what is being asked of her.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Hildee, though, is the difference between the dog you see around the lodge and the dog you see when it's time to hunt.
Away from the field, Hildee has an incredibly calm and sweet demeanor. She is wonderful to have around and simply enjoys being part of the group. After a hunt, she's perfectly happy relaxing with everyone, soaking up attention, and enjoying the company.
But when it's time to hunt, the switch flips.
That calm German Shorthaired Pointer suddenly becomes focused, driven, and completely tuned in to the job in front of her. It's a transformation that makes her especially fun to watch and a genuine pleasure to hunt behind.
Hildee is everything we enjoy about a close-working bird dog: beautiful, intelligent, methodical, easy to handle, and serious about finding birds. She's equally enjoyable in the field and around the lodge afterward.
For hunters looking for a slower-paced, comfortable South Mississippi bird hunt behind an experienced German Shorthaired Pointer, Hildee is an outstanding companion.
Come hunt with Hildee at Mississippi Upland and experience a bird dog whose steady pace, natural ability, and sweet personality make every hunt enjoyable.
