Quail Hunting Mississippi

Quail Hunting Mississippi | Guided Hunts | Mississippi Upland

Set in the piney woods of south Mississippi our guided quail hunts focus on good dog work, safe shooting, and classic southern hospitality.

Quail Hunting in Mississippi: Keeping a Southern Tradition Alive

Quail hunting in Mississippi is more than a day in the field. It is a Southern tradition that has connected generations of hunters to the land, their families, and great bird dogs. For many years, the familiar call of the bobwhite quail could be heard across Mississippi's farms, pine woods, fence rows, and field edges. Following a pointing dog into a covey of quail was simply part of growing up outdoors in Mississippi.

Over the years, changes in land use and the loss of suitable habitat contributed to a significant decline in wild bobwhite quail populations. As bird numbers declined, fewer people had the opportunity to experience traditional Mississippi quail hunting. At Mississippi Upland, we believe this great sporting tradition is worth preserving and passing along.

Our Commitment to Mississippi Quail Hunting

Our goal at Mississippi Upland goes beyond providing an enjoyable, guided quail hunt. We want to help keep the tradition of upland hunting alive in Mississippi while encouraging a greater understanding of the habitat that quail and other wildlife need to survive.

Healthy quail habitat requires more than simply having open land. Bobwhite quail depend on the right combination of grasses, weeds, seeds, insects, escape cover, nesting areas, and bare ground that allows them to move and feed. Managing property with wildlife in mind can benefit not only quail but many other species that share the same habitat.

The more people understand the relationship between wildlife and good habitat, the better chance we have of keeping these traditions alive for future generations.

Passing the Tradition to the Next Generation

One of the things we care most about at Mississippi Upland is introducing new hunters to upland hunting.

A person's first quail hunt can create a memory that lasts a lifetime. There is something special about watching a pointing dog work scent through the cover, seeing the dog lock up on point, walking in behind the guide, and then experiencing the sudden explosion of a covey rise.

We especially enjoy giving young hunters an opportunity to experience those moments. Today's young hunter may become tomorrow's bird-dog owner, land manager, conservationist, guide, or parent who introduces another generation to the outdoors.

Experienced hunters are always welcome, but you do not have to grow up hunting quail to enjoy Mississippi Upland. Our guides enjoy working with first-time hunters and taking the time to explain how a quail hunt works. Safety, sportsmanship, respect for the dogs, and enjoyment of the outdoors are always important parts of the experience.

Great Bird Dogs Are at the Heart of the Hunt

You cannot talk about quail hunting in Mississippi without talking about bird dogs.

At Mississippi Upland, the dogs are a major part of what makes the experience special. Our hunters have the opportunity to watch experienced pointing dogs search the cover, use the wind, locate scent, establish a point, and retrieve birds after the shot.

Our team hunts with both American Brittanys and German Shorthaired Pointers, with individual dogs offering different ranges, speeds, personalities, and hunting styles. Some hunters enjoy watching a faster dog cover country, while others prefer a slower, close-working and methodical dog.

A great bird dog transforms a quail hunt into something much more than shooting birds. Watching a dog do what generations of selective breeding and training have prepared it to do is one of the great pleasures of upland hunting.

A South Mississippi Quail Hunting Destination

Mississippi Upland is located in Ellisville, near Laurel, Mississippi, making us accessible to hunters throughout Mississippi and across the Southeast.

Each season, we welcome hunters traveling from areas such as New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Mobile, Alabama; Birmingham, Alabama; the Mississippi Gulf Coast; Jackson; Hattiesburg; and communities throughout the region.

Some guests visit for a day of guided quail hunting, while others turn their trip into a complete upland getaway with lodging and additional time in the field. Whether you're traveling with longtime hunting partners, bringing your family, entertaining customers, planning a corporate outing, or introducing someone to hunting for the first time, our goal is the same: provide a safe, relaxed, memorable experience.

Experience Quail Hunting in Mississippi

We want Mississippi Upland to be a place where the traditions surrounding quail hunting continue to grow.

That means good bird dogs. It means knowledgeable guides. It means taking time with new hunters instead of rushing them through the experience. It means teaching young people to respect the land, wildlife, dogs, firearms, and the people sharing the field with them. And it means remembering that sometimes the best part of a hunt isn't measured by the number of birds in the bag.

It's measured by the people you hunted with, the dogs you watched work, and the stories you tell afterward.

If you're searching for an authentic guided quail hunting experience in Mississippi, we invite you to visit Mississippi Upland.

Come walk the fields, hunt behind our bird dogs, experience the excitement of a covey rise, and help us carry the tradition of Mississippi quail hunting into the next generation.
